Phase 1 has begun, eh, Sleep? Well, that's one good start, I say. At last, oh at last you recognize your Fluttershy.
Maker, this here is lovely. My favourite part must be the bright outlines where the light falls on their bodies. They contrast nicely with the rest of the picture and draw focus to them both. The other favourite part is the softness of the entire piece; the non-stark, slightly blurred, gentle shifts of colour and tone. They help create a very pleasant and peaceful atmosphere, one that suits this perfectly. That sky looks quite magnificent. It's like there's an aurora going on. Makes for an excellent light source and looks amazing against (and lighting up) those clouds and that lake. Speaking of the lake and the light it reflects, it could possibly receive a smoother treatment more akin to the sky, but all things considered, it works just as well. The grass in the foreground is a good idea, as it helps position the view and create a sense of perspective, and the shift of lighting between it and the patches farther away help create an idea of unevenness of the slope, and perhaps also of the wind. Oh, and one last thing: the thing in between the completely awesome at which Fluttershy seems to be looking, the fluffy-edged one, what is it? Is it a cloud, or a tree, or a giant monster about to eat Equestria, or a terrible all-consuming hole in reality? It could be anything, but still, it looks nice despite being unclear. The only gripe with the characters that I could possibly have here is the positioning of their irises. They look a bit strangely swiveled, particularly on Sleep, and don't feel completely right for the angle we're observing them at. All the rest of the impressions is decidedly positive: the hair on both of them is beautiful indeed (those separate strands of Sleep's, that magnificent tail of Fluttershy's with that loose hair there and its entire positioning, that multi-layered mane on Fluttershy and how it parts between the front and the back; it makes me want to run fingers through it or nuzzle it, which is something I'll leave for Sleep instead), and its colouring is simply top-notch. All those different tones and how they shift and create a realistic feeling. Finally, 'bout the eyes: while they are turned in a strange way, they still look quite lovely. Fluttershy's eyes are very fitting-looking, very much herself, she is. And so is Sleep. Good highlighting work on both of them, although I do think it could be brighter, along with the eyes' outer edge.
If you haven't guessed it yet, I love this piece. Well done!
And yes, Sleep, this is how you Fluttershy. Somehow, this reminds me quite a bit of the last panel of that one comic; you know which one I'm talking about, Sleep. I find the similarity rather fitting. Also, it's good to see Sleep smiling. I guess Fluttershy is indeed made of distilled happiness.
Well, that still doesn't invalidate the fact that you made a Fluttershy commission. And the rest of the feedback thingy still stands, too. Who is that pony, then?
Anyway, you definitely should create an OC representation or something. You don't even have to use it widely like myself (although I don't really use mine that widely). Just so that it exists and can be put in places like this, when something referring to you is necessary.
And still, you'd fit right in there beside Flutters.
